Bump n’ Grind is a part of the foundations of classic burlesque movements! In this workshop, Zyra will teach you what bump n’ grind is and how to do it!

This class will start with a mini lecture on the history of the bump n’ grind movement and its historical significance within burlesque routines! We will then learn how to bump and grind, along with different variations of the bump and grind. Afterwards, we’ll explore learning how to be bump n’ grind to not just standard burlesque jazz music, but also modern music such as HipHop, rock and pop! We’ll conclude the class with a mini bump n’ grind choreography lesson and learning how to incorporate a tease into our bump n’ grind!

A funk and soul dance workshop for all levels, fun, and informative, covering not just the dances and the style we're doing, but also focusing on concepts and the practice of dancing comfortably in your own skin.

This is a movement & dance workshop to help shape your burlesque movement, with multiple award-winning burlesque and drag artist, the Kulture King of Toronto, Kage Wolfe!

Dive deep and bust out with Déjà Louve, an award-winning neo burlesque performer with a classic twist. Explore the rich history of burlesque and learn sassy moves to take home and to the stage.

Having travelled internationally for both business and burlesque, Déjà brings over ten years of production experience, a unique perspective and a powerful drive for self-expression to the class. Also, Deja was recently voted one of Canada’s Top 20 Most Influential Burlesque performers in a survey held by 21st Century Burlesque.

In this workshop, she’ll guide you through playful drills, confidence-building exercises, and discussion about self-love, sensuality, and reclaiming your body on your own terms.

You’ll learn a short group choreography and have the option to perform it together at the annual Queen City Burlesque Expo “Step Into Your Power” at the Bailey Theatre on Saturday, April 11th.

This workshop will teach performers strategies for making their personalities shine onstage. In a world of Bettie bangs and cinched corsets, it’s important to stand out, make an instant impact, and invite the audience to get to know you intimately!

In this class, we’ll discuss a variety of strategies for creating character, starting with how to be “yourself but bigger”, and leading into ways to create an act-specific character. We’ll talk about how to use archetypes to your advantage, and how to decide which props are crucial to your character and story (and which ones you can skip!)

We’ll discover strategies for creating a character-specific dance vocabulary and step outside our comfort zones by identifying how, we usually present ourselves to the audience… and then trying on different approaches. You’ll leave class with new tools for building character, telling a story and making your mark on the audience.

Tired of not getting good live photos of your acts at shows, or not liking how you look in photographs? Want to look confident onstage and off and embrace the power of stillness? Learn the magic of classic pin-up posing with international pin-up expert Bettina May, and you'll be the star of promo photos, stage, and life! All genders and bodies will benefit.

During the class, students will have an opportunity to speak with Bettina May about her experience as both a published pin-up model and photographer in a Q & A setting, and then get hands-on experience trying out her poses, playing with different characters, and getting individual assistance and correction with posing. Students should come dressed to move in comfortable clothing, as they would for a dance class, and if they have dance heels, they are encouraged to wear them. Modifications can be made for bodies of all abilities.

As if from the dark alley in a Frank Miller-inspired movie or a dive bar full of suspicious characters in a Tarantino film, join Cherry OnTop and make your way towards a stage that lies on your mind: where you will gyrate, bump and hair flip your way into your starring role as the baddest, most seductive bitch in town.
Inspired by the dancing babes of some of our favourite movies, combined with the deep sensuality of burlesque’s bump’n’grind, this class will have you letting loose like never before. Cherry will drill you on body isolations and shimmies before leading you down a sensual path into a choreography that will shake you from head to toe.
Class is all-levels but will be a cardio challenge.

What to wear/bring: Bring water and clothing you're comfortable shaking in, bonus points for fringe! Class will be done barefoot.

During our lesson, we will explore the art of commanding a room with subtle and not-so-subtle movements using a robe/ shirt/wrap to create meaningful, delicious choreography. It will be thick and juicy and oh so ghouly! You will walk away from this workshop with the confidence of Morticia and the power of Vampira. Bettie will teach you a piece of choreography to perform at the end of class in groups. It's sexy, it's powerful, it's so much fun! What do you wear? Anything that makes you feel comfortable, darlings! I want you to feel gorgeous, so wear whatever helps you feel that way. Is it lingerie? Is it active wear? Is it a giant garbage bag? Whatever it is, wear it! Heels are optional in all my classes; bare feet are absolutely fine by me.

Improv can be scary and LeTabby is here to demystify the make 'em ups and have you flying by the seat of your pants while you remove them! Using fun physical games we will have you honing your improv skills, which will come in handy for those oopsies times, if you want to play with the audience or there's an opportunity for a special in the moment play. Improv is all about play and being positive, which are great skills for any performer. lessons learned from this workshop will come in handy on stage and off in act development. LeTabby Lexington has trained with Second City and Rapid Fire Theatre and is a cast member of the Canadian Comedy Award Winning Die Nasty, the Improvised Soap Opera as well as a trained clown. Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. This workshop is open to all genders, bodies and abilities.
